Leo Harris Award
Dawn Harrison
Dawn Harrison was nominated for this award by the members of Tannoch Stables Riding Club in Cumbernauld, which she founded. For more than 20 years Dawn has owned and run a livery and training yard then, 18 years ago, she established a riding club to enable people the opportunity to compete off the yard.
Not only does Dawn compete for the club herself, once she has finished riding she is generous with her help for everyone else. Ever keen to encourage old time members to compete again, she is equally supportive and encouraging to new, novice members. In sum, Dawn is the driving force behind TS Riding Club, where she helps arrange qualifiers, attends every meeting and then, at shows, normally does at least four jobs, from ring steward to car park attendant.
Dawn has nurtured the club through good times and bad and is still exerting every sinew to drive it forward. The club members believe her effort and support deserves public recognition because, without people like Dawn, the riding clubs movement would struggle to survive.
